As an organisation we are committed to supporting and training our staff. We have a policy to encourage continuing professional development (CPD) for
all members of staff. This may be achieved by teaching and training in post for all staff , and for Biomedical Scientists (BMS), by studying for higher
qualifications through a recognised higher degree or The Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) specialist qualifications.
Training within the pathology departments will comply with requirements of the Pathology quality management system which is in accordance with
ISO15189. It also complies with the standards and guidance issued by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Institute of Biomedical Science
(IBMS), and other appropriate professional and registration bodies.
The department runs regular seminars where a member of staff or outside speaker will give a talk on a relevant subject. Often, these are to cover the
knowledge required for the Registration / Specialist Portfolio These seminars can also be used to discuss relevant scientific papers and new
developments. CPD points can be obtained for these meetings. There may also be other Pathology wide seminars which take place which staff can
attend.
